Donald Božič
pediatric dentist, USA
I visited Slovenia for the first time in June of 2013. With ten relatives, we visited our grandparents birth towns in Slovenia: Prušnia vas, Šentjošt, Škrjanče pri Novem Mestu, and Tenetiše. My parents, both 100% Slovenian were born in the USA. I have had the extreme pleasure of discovering Slovenia, the country of my heritage, for the past three years. I have just returned from my 17th visit and will return again in one month. I have visited over 500 cities, towns, and villages. I have taken over 25,000 digital photos. I am in the process of applying for dual citizenship. I have completed 30 hours of Slovenian language lessons and working on another 30. I am a loyal fan of Ansambel Roka Žlindre. I attended a performance during my first visit in June of 2013. Since then I have attended several performances. They have become close personal friends. They are responsible for showing me the true Slovenia, the people, the culture, their way of life, their families, relatives, and friends. They have given me a true appreciation of what it means to be Slovenian. I attended their ten year anniversary as a band in November. During that performance they honored me with a gift of a Slovenian national costume. The video of the performance will be televised on Slovenian TV this coming January 15th. I am a Pediatric Dentist practicing in Carmel Indiana USA. I am so very proud to be Slovenian.
