The 10th Slovenian government was elected
The 10th Slovenian government was elected and headed by Prime Minister Janez Janša.. It consisted of 11 ministers and a minister without a portfolio, where SDS was in charge of 4 ministries and the remaining four coalition partners for two each. As the main challenge of his mandate Janša pointed out Slovenia's exit from the crisis.

Slovenian ski jumper Robert Kranjec won the title of Ski Flying World Champion in Vikersund. One day later, Jurij Tepeš, Jure Šinkovec and Jernej Damjan won a team bronze medal.

Biathlete Jakov Fak won gold, biathlon mixed relay team won silver
The Slovenian biathlete Jakov Fak won gold in the 20 km individual at the World Biathlon Championship in Ruhpolding. The Slovenian biathlon mixed relay team of Andreja Mali, Teja Gregorin, Klemen Bauer and Jakov Fak won silver at the Biathlon World Championship in Germany's Ruhpolding on Thursday in what is the first medal for Slovenia in relay at world championships.

Slovenia won four medals at London Olympics
Judoka Urška Žolnir won a gold medal in the women’s 63 kg category judo at the London Olympics. Slovenian rowers Iztok Čop and Luka Špik won the bronze medal at the London Olympics. Rajmond Debevec won bronze in the men's 50m rifle prone shooting at the London Olympics. Athlete Primož Kozmus won Olympic silver in the hammer.

Borut Pahor elected new Slovenian president
Borut Pahor emerged winner in the second round of presidential elections. He was elected by 67.4 percent of voters, while his opponent Danilo Türk received 32.6 percent of the vote. Voter turnout was 41.95 percent. The handover of presidential responsibilities took place on 23 December, the day after the solemn oath in the National Assembly.
